About Dr. Mattox
Hi, I’m Dr. Rhonda Mattox. At my core, I’m a woman of faith who believes peace is possible even in a chaotic world. I wear many hats—wife, mother, psychiatrist, speaker, author, coach, consultant, and encourager. Yet, one of the roles I value most highly is helping people lay down the heavy mask of perfection and step into the freedom God intended for them.
I know what it feels like to be a public success while silently feeling like a private failure. I know what it’s like to hear the words, “Mommy, I hate you!” just moments before walking into a room full of parents expecting me to teach them how to build strong relationships with their children. I know what it’s like for others to assume I have it all together—the degrees, the career, the smile—while inside I was exhausted, anxious, and quietly crumbling. They thought they wanted what I had, and truthfully, I didn’t even want what I had. Behind closed doors, I had to do the hard work of examining myself. I had to gather what I call my Joy Wellness Team—my psychiatrist, my pastor, my pup, my emancipation circle, family, and friends. And at the center of it all was my journal. That journal became my safe place.
I’ve spent my career walking alongside high-achievers, faith leaders, and everyday women who silently carry the weight of the world while making it look effortless. I know that struggle intimately, because I’ve carried it too. That’s why I’m so passionate about creating spaces where we can be real, breathe deeply, and reclaim rest without guilt.

The Inspiration
I am a triple fellowship–trained, board-certified psychiatrist. I’m the strong friend, the Sunday school teacher, the person others run to when their world falls apart. But becoming the grounded, joyful, and resilient psychiatrist I am today required honesty, reflection, journaling, hard conversations, and yes—even medicine. And now, I stand before you, full of joy and peace, and able to say with confidence: I wouldn’t take anything for my journey.
My pathway to peace wasn’t always smooth. During the pandemic, life felt especially heavy. Yet, it was my time with the Lord, my journaling, and the support of my Joy Wellness Team that carried me through. Over the years, I shared worksheets and exercises with patients in my sessions. They kept saying: “Put it in a folder.” “Put it in a book.” But I didn’t—until one day I was searching for a meaningful gift for a loved one struggling with anxiety. A still, quiet voice nudged me: Share your tools with her. So I did. Of course, I sprinkled some “razzle dazzle” on those pages, infused them with my heart, and gave her what would eventually become Take 5! Pathway to Peace: A 40-Day Journaling Experience. She didn’t just thank me—she transformed before my eyes.
The journal gave her language to use with her treatment team. It helped her reassess her friend-circle diet and inspired her to build her own Joy Wellness Team. Every conversation afterward, she asked: “When are you sharing this with the world?” Her persistence became my push. And so, three years later, I am finally answering that call. This journal is not just pages. It's a pathway-a pathway to peace, healing, and transformation.
I've been blown away by what the early birds had to say about this guided journal. I'm Dr. Rhonda Mattox and it is my distinct pleasure to share Take 5! Pathway to Peace with YOU!

About the Book
This book, Take 5! Pathway to Peace: A 40-Day Journaling Experience is an invitation for you to pause, to say no when you need to, and to give yourself permission to put down what was never yours to carry. My hope is that these pages remind you that you are not alone, and that peace is not a distant dream. It’s a daily choice within your reach.
